Thighlift
Thighplasty (Thigh Lift) – Patient Education

Overview:
Thighplasty, commonly known as a thigh lift, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the inner or outer thighs to improve contour, firmness, and skin tone. It is often performed after significant weight loss or to address age-related sagging.

Goals of the Procedure:

-
Remove loose, sagging skin
-
Improve the shape and tone of the thighs
-
Enhance comfort in clothing and physical activity
-
Restore proportional contour with the rest of the body
Types of Thigh Lifts:

-
Medial (Inner) Thigh Lift: Targets the upper inner thigh.
-
Vertical Thigh Lift: Extends from the groin to the knee for more extensive contouring.
-
Lateral (Outer) Thigh Lift: Lifts and tightens outer thigh and buttock skin.
-
Spiral Thigh Lift: Comprehensive approach involving the front, back, and sides of thighs.
Ideal Candidates:

-
Stable weight and generally healthy
-
Excess soft tissue along the inner or outer thigh
-
Non-smokers or willing to quit before and after surgery
-
Realistic expectations about outcomes and recovery
The Procedure:

-
Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically used.
-
Incision: Depending on the type of thigh lift, incisions may be made in the groin, along the inner thigh, or around the hips.
-
Skin & Fat Removal: Excess tissue is removed, and remaining skin is tightened.
-
Closure: Sutures are placed to support healing and minimize scarring.
Recovery Timeline:

-
Hospital Stay: Usually outpatient, though some cases may require an overnight stay.
-
Initial Recovery: 1–2 weeks of rest, compression garments worn for support.
-
Return to Work: Usually within 2–3 weeks depending on activity level.
-
Full Recovery: 6–8 weeks for swelling to subside and final results to become more visible.
Risks and Complications:

-
Scarring (may be significant but fades over time)
-
Infection or bleeding
-
Asymmetry or contour irregularities
-
Seroma (fluid buildup)
-
Numbness or changes in skin sensation
Postoperative Care:

-
Keep incisions clean and dry
-
Wear compression garments as instructed
-
Avoid strenuous activity for 4–6 weeks
-
Attend all follow-up appointments
Long-Term Results:
Results are typically long-lasting, especially with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. However, natural aging and gravity may affect the outcome over time.
